18 August 2021

Struggling to decide whether to go for stone or laminate kitchen benchtops? Don’t worry, we all go through this stage during the renovation process. Both Kitchen benchtop options have a list of Pro’s and Con’s so we have weighed up the good and bad to help you decide what option is best for you.

Stone kitchen benchtops:

The cost of engineered stone has come down in recent years due to the competitive nature of the market, with many different brands now available in Australia. Stone benchtops are often seen as the ultimate choice when building or renovating. Here at eKitchens, we will submit your plans to multiple highly recommended fabricators and present you with the most competitive price. Stone is well known for it’s durability and is the most preferred surface for kitchen benchtops. There is a large range of brands and colours to choose from and has a great tolerance to heat. The downside of stone is that it can be quite expensive compared to other products and is not a DIY option.

Laminate kitchen benchtops:

Laminate kitchen benchtops are very popular and remain a great solution for DIY, budget conscious, or rural projects. We all know of (and have most likely had a laminate benchtop at some stage of our lives) and can attest to their outstanding durability. Printing technology has progressed in the last decade, creating ways for impressive colours and patterns to be made as a laminate benchtop, including colours that mimic stone and wood. Laminate kitchen benchtops are also a much more affordable option compared to stone benchtops. The disadvantages would be that they are not as hardwearing as stone benchtops and if water is left sitting near the joins, this can lead to water damage.

To sum things up, if you have the budget to go for stone kitchen benchtops then this is definitely an option to consider going for, however if you are aiming to stick to a smaller budget then laminate is a great alternative to opt for. Both are brilliant, well known products and will be able to achieve what you are looking for without any disappointment.
